You Unlocked a Memory : GlitterForce!

A long time ago, when I was a young man…

My friend (and at the time, roommate) Pete and I had the day off. No plans, and no motivation to do anything worthwhile with our time. We accepted the fact that it was to be one of “those days” the ones where you go to bed feeling absolutely disgusting with yourself having achieved absolutely nothing at all - and honestly, leaning into it really was the best option that day. The plan was simple, lets just get Mcdonalds, get drunk, and watch something that looks reeeeaally shitty - top shelf garbage. We got our fast food, hit up the liquor store, and started browsing through the available streaming services, settling on an animated program called GlitterForce!

At a glance it just looked like a cheap Sailor Moon knock off, and upon further inspection, that was confirmed. I believe the show had five female protagonists - they fought evil with the powers of Fire, Lightning, Ice, Love, and Soccer. Yes…That feels accurate. And the theme song was designed to perfectly annoy you before getting stuck in your head for days.

This was a forgotten memory until just now, and I have no idea why it popped in my head. I have so far spent my day taking my cousin Hannah to the airport, playing the latest Zelda game (Tears of the Kingdom, and stringing up the summer lights in the backyard with my Dad, poorly I might add - not our finest work, but we got the job done! All after a morning at the gym of course. (I never miss leg day, ladies…ladies?…oh well)

It’s been a particularly lovely, and lazy day - maybe that’s why the memory of GlitterForce popped in my head. I used to own a Dragon’s horde of films and television shows on VHS, DVD, and BLU-RAY. I was very nervous that I would forget things without owning a physical representation of some sort, but have since decided that the important things stay with us…unless you lose your mind in old age, which is why I am writing this fucking thing down. Give my insane older self something to spend his time reading.

I don’t know if there is anything to take from this, but let me tell you, watching that dumb show with a good friend and laughing made for a great day, and if I’m correct the show actually did deliver some solid laughs outside of the horrible plot structure. If I remember correctly, one of the shows first scenes is a joyful young girl prancing her way to school, vocalizing that today seems like the kind of day where anything could happen, and excitement could be around every corner! Upon turning the corner, she woefully stated “oh…nope.”

Delightful!

I’m going to polish this whole thought up later, but I wanted to scribble it down before I forgot it for another thousand years. It’s a real good memory.
